Quandary Peak

Elevation: 14,265 ft
Vertical Distance: 3,325 ft
Distance (Round Trip): 6.5 mi
Location: White River National Forest
Date Climbed: January 2010

Another sunny day in paradise. We decided to snowshoe up Quandary Peak (the 13th tallest mountain in Colorado) with our skis/snowboards on our backs and do some back-county skiing down. Lesson learned: skis are damn heavy. We made it to the summit exhausted and feeling sick from the altitude but had some fun skiing down.

Pacific Peak

Elevation: 13,950 ft
Vertical Distance: 2,870 ft
Distance (Round Trip): 7.5 mi
Location: Pike National Forest
Date Climbed: October 2009

Well we learned a valuable lesson this day - don't assume the footprints you are following belong to hikers and a dog. The area had recently gotten a lot of snow and we were off trail following what turned out to be ice climbers and a coyote. We found ourselves on a rock face 3,000 feet over the valley with no rope or ice gear. Summit attempt was unsuccessful but we will be back this summer to make it.
